Manu Reserve Zone 7D/6N

Tour Itinerary

DAY 1: CUSCO – AMAZON PONA LODGE

We leave Cusco early in the morning in our private car adapted for the route with mountains and jungle, in the course of the trip we will pass many places of tourist attraction such as: Ninamarca which is a pre-Inca construction of the Lupaca Kindong culture, then we will be passing through the valley of Paucartambo and a small town of paucartambo known as the folkloric capital of Peru, then we will arrive at the Ajanaco pass which is the beginning of the Manu National Park from this point we will descend to the Amazon rainforest; going through a unique cloud forest in the world.
In this area we will make short stops and hikes to see exotic birds of the cloud forest especially the Peruvian National bird the Andean cock-of-the-rocks, toucans, tanagers and mammals such as monkeys and coaties, with good luck Sloth and a lot variety of flowers and orchids. DAY 2: AMAZON PONA LODGE – PAPAYA ECO LODGE

After breakfast at the lodge we continue our trip in our private car to Atalaya River Port, from there we start our trip in a motorized boat through the Madre de Dios River to the Natural hot springs of shintuya and then to the next lodge, the trip will be for 4 to 5 hours by boat, on the way we can see many species of birds such as herons, macaws, toucans, kingfishers, etc. and animals like the capybara (largest rodent in the world) and to enjoy the beautiful Amazonian landscape, in the afternoon we will arrive at the lodge.
At the lodge we will have a short break to rest from the long boat trip, then we go to a camouflaged house to see animals such as: tapir, porcupine, deer and other nocturnal rodents at night eating clay in the mammal clay lick which is a rich place in mineral salts, with good luck We can see cats like the Jaguar, puma or ocelot that sometimes come to hunt in this place and you will enjoy the sound of the jungle during the night. DAY 3: PAPAYA ECO LODGE – CASA MATSIGUENKA LODGE

These day we continue our trip in our boat downstream by the Madre de Dios River and then by the Manu River upstream, the Manu River is within the Manu National Park and is a very special habitat with very warm water, the shores and the beaches in Manu River are the perfect place to see big black caimans and white caimans, turtles, butterflies and other animals.

And here we have high chance to see big cats on the river sides like: the Jaguar, Puma and other small cats, (June – October) and you will see a great variety of monkeys of different species, some of them eating clay on the river banks, also birds like herons, gulls, Black skimmers, toucans, macaws, eagles, etc. It will be a long trip of approximately 6 to 7 hours with a few short stops along the way. DAY 4: CASA MATSIGUENGUA LODGE – COCHA SALVADOR LAKE

This day there we do full activity in the morning we explore the Salvador lake in a catamaran, here we can see the Giant Otters (lobo de rio) The most endangered species animal in the amazon, The reason is that this mammal eats between 3 to 5 kilos of fish per day each of them, and there are no longer many lakes in the Amazon jungle with abundant fish, only in national parks like Manu. We will also see more Black Caimans, turtles, herons, many species of monkeys in large groups, then we go back to the lodge for lunch looking for more monkeys and birds in the way.
In the afternoon after lunch we go to Otorongo Lake, here we will climb a 20 meter high tower to see parrots, macaws, eagles, toucans and many birds flying through the treetops and enjoy the panoramic view of the lake and then we continue exploring this beautiful jungle looking for more species of animals, and the guide explains the relationship between plant, animal, insect and the function of the different ecosystems and the medicinal functions of plants. DAY 5: CASA MATSIGUENKA LODGE – MACAW CLAYLICK - PAQUIZTZA

This day, after breakfast, in the morning we will go to see the Matsiguenka macaw clay lick, to see the macaws (ara chloroptera, ara macaw, ara severus,) eating clay, this clay lick is very rich in minerals and for that reason many Species of birds and mammals visit frequently to obtain the minerals that they need in their metabolism.

In the afternoon after lunch at the lodge, we will go by boat to the last Pakitza checkpoint, here we hike to another mammal clay lick, on the way we will be able to see more species of monkeys such as: the emperor Tamarin and titi Monkeys ; toucans, medicinal plants. At sunset we return to the lodge, at this time in afternoon by this area a long the river it is possible to see the jaguar resting on the beach, we can also see more caimans and other animals D.A.C.

 

DAY 6: CASA MATSIGUENKA LODGE – PAPAYA LODGE

Very early in the morning we left the Lodge and started to return along the Manu River downstream This day we will also have opportunities to see more Caiman, tapirs, Sloths, turtles, monkeys, toucans, macaws, herons and other animals.

And with good luck some cats in the morning like jaguar, Puma or Ocelot. Arriving to Limonal ranger station here, we go to observation tower to see Blue and yellow Macaws and other swamp forest birds and then we return along the Madre de Dios up River to Papaya Eco Lodge. Here we will go out to explore the jungle and do the night walk to look for frogs, snakes, night monkeys, spiders, tarantulas and many other insects B.L.D.

 

DAY 7: PAPAYA ECO LODGE – CUSCO

This day very early in the morning we left the lodge and started to return by boat along the Madre de Dios river to Atalaya river port, and from there we returned in our private car to Cusco. B.L.
