DAY 1: CUSCO – AMAZON PONA LODGE
We leave Cusco very early in the morning in our private car adapted for the route with mountains and jungle, during the trip we will pass many places of tourist attraction such as: Ninamarca Which is a pre-Inca construction of the Lupaca culture, then we will be passing through the valley and town of Paucartambo known as the folkloric capital of Peru, then we will arrive at the Pass of Ajanaco which is the beginning of the Manu National Park, from this point we will descend to the Amazon rainforest; going through a unique cloud forest in the world. In this area we will make stops and short walks to see exotic birds of the cloud forest especially the national bird of Peru the Andean Cock of the Rock, Toucans, Tanagers and mammals such as monkeys and Coaties, with good luck Sloth and Spectacled Bear and a variety of flowers and orchids, and we will arrive at sunset our Lodge. DAY 2: AMAZON PONA LODGE – PAPAYA LODGE (DAY SAFARI)
After breakfast at the lodge we continue our trip this time in a private Unimong safari car heading towards the shipitiari river port, this day will be adventure and adrenaline with a better panoramic view of the safari car, to enjoy the wildlife and the landscape without walking too much, seeing animals ond monkeys like: the Howler monkey, Titi monkey, tamarin monkey, squirrel monkes and among others, and many birds such as toucans and macaws, arriving at the shipitiari river port for noon and from there we start our motorized boat trip across the Madre de Dios River and we headed to our tourist lodge,
In the Lodge we will have a short break to take a cool shower, and rest a little, then we will go to a camouflaged house to see animals: like tapir, porcupine, deer and other nocturnal rodents at night eating clay in the Clay lick, which is a place rich in salts minerals D.A.C
DAY 3: PAPAYA LODGE – CASA MATSIGUENKA LODGE
On this day we continue our journey along the Madre de Dios down River for approximately two more hours and then upstream along the Manu River. The Manu River is located within the Manu National Park and is a very special habitat with very warm waters, the beaches and the banks of the river are the perfect place to see large Caiman, such as the black Caiman and the white Caiman, turtles, capibaras, tapirs, butterflies, etc; with good luck you can see big cats like: the Jaguar, the Puma and other small cats, and a great variety of monkeys of different species, some of them eating clay on the riverbank, birds like herons, seagulls, skinmers, toucans , macaws, eagles, etc. It will be a long journey of approximately 7 to 8 hours with some short stops along the way.
In the afternoon we explore Lake Salvador on a catamaran, here we can see the Giant Otter fishing or playing (river wolf) that reached the edge of extinction, the reason is that these mammals eat between 3 to 5 kilos of fish each of them per day , and unfortunately there are not many lakes in the Amazon jungle with abundant fish, they only remain in national parks like Manu. In the lake we can also see more Caimans, turtles, herons and among other birds, you can also see many species of monkeys in large groups towards the shore of the lake. D.A.C
DAY 4: CASA MATSIGUENGUA LODGE – MACAW CLAY LICK
This day, very early after breakfast, we will go to see the Matsiguenka Macaw Clay Lick, to see the Parrots and macaws eating clay, this Clay Lick is very rich in minerals and for that reason many species of birds and animals frequently visit these places to get the minerals they need in their metabolism. After seeing the parrots eating clay, let’s continue with our activity of looking for more wildlife in the forest and then returning to the lodge and enjoying our Buffet lunch in the Amazonian style. In the afternoon after lunch we continue exploring this beautiful jungle looking for more species of monkeys like. The spider monkey, howler monkey, white capuchin monkey, emperor tamarin monkey; Toucans, wild pigs, insects, etc. The guide will explains the relationship between plant, animal, insect and the function of different ecosystems and the medicinal functions of plants. At night an optional night walk to see nightlife such as tarantulas, snakes, tree and poison frogs, insects, owls, etc. D.A.C.
DAY 5: CASA MATSIGUENKA LODGE – PAPAYA LODGE
Very early in the morning we leave the lodge and begin to return along the same river Manu towards Otorongo Lake, here we will climb to a 20 meters high tower to see parrots, macaws, eagles, toucans and many birds flying through the tres canopy and enjoy the panoramic view of the lake, then we will continue our boat trip on the Manu river down stream, later upstream on the Madre de Dios river, this day we will also have opportunities to see more Caimans, tapirs, Sloths, turtles, monkeys, toucans , macaws, herons and other animals. And with good luck some feline in the early morning like jaguar, puma and other small felines. On the way back we will arrive at Papaya Lodge in the middle of the afternoon, after a rest and a cool shower at the lodge we will go to the jungle in search of more animals until it gets dark and at night we can do the night walk in search of night monkey, dwarf caiman, snakes, frogs, tarantulas and many insects that only come out at night. DAY 6.- PAPAYA LODGE – CUSCO
This day very early in the morning we leave the lodge and begin to return in our safari car for about 4 hours to Salvacion and here we can change to a private mini van that brings us back to the city of Cusco, end of the trip. D.A.
