Dry Season: Mid-May To September

The best time to visit Manu National Park is from mid-May to September, during the dry season. At this time of year, river levels are low, and sandy riverbanks become the perfect place to observe a wide variety of wildlife. Many animals come out onto the beaches, making wildlife viewing easier and more frequent.

Wildlife Viewing and Jaguar Sightings

This period is also considered one of the best times to spot jaguars, as well as turtles, caimans, and a large number of bird species nesting along the riverbanks. The forest is very active, and wildlife encounters are common throughout the day.
The climate during these months is generally pleasant, with little to no rainfall, which makes exploring the rainforest much easier. River navigation is smoother, trails are more accessible, and overall travel conditions are ideal for visitors.

Macaw Clay Lick Sightings

If your main interest is observing macaws and parrots feeding on clay licks, the best period is from August to March. During these months, large flocks of colorful macaws and parrots regularly gather at the clay licks, offering one of the most spectacular wildlife experiences in the Amazon.
The main disadvantage of the dry season is that it is high season, meaning there are more travelers during these months. In contrast, the rest of the year is considered low season, with fewer visitors due to higher river levels and increased rainfall.
